Necker's new Great House

Necker’s new Great House

When a lightning strike started a fire that destroyed Sir Richard Branson’s home on Necker Island in summer 2011, he vowed to re-build it better than before. Now, over two years later, the new Great House is complete.

Modelled on the original Balinese design, its new features include a 1,500 sq ft master suite, a large outdoor terrace with hammocks and sofas, and a large dining table for guests to eat together al fresco.

Necker Island

The brand new Great House is the heart of the island

‘Necker Island has been my home for more than 30 years and for me it is the most beautiful place in the world,’ says Sir Richard. ‘The brand new Great House is the heart of the island and I’m thrilled with the results. This signals a new dawn for Necker, which I’m very excited about.’

The new Great House – like its predecessor – attracts guests as part of the Virgin Limited Edition portfolio. It boasts eight guest rooms, each with a balcony and en-suite bathroom and a specially designed bunk room for children. With additional accommodation in six Bali Houses, the island can sleep a total of 30 adults and six children.

Our escapist slideshow shows some of the most tantalising images of the island, its wildlife and its accommodation.
