fun at the fringe - support the worlds biggest arts festival

Fun at the Fringe

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe runs until 27 August this year. Performers from all over the world will descend on the Scottish capital for the world’s largest and arguably greatest arts festival.

“the Fringe is like nothing else you’ll ever experience”

With thousands upon thousands of shows including theatre, comedy, music, cabaret, spoken word, opera, dance and physical theatre, the Fringe is off the scale. And visitors to the city are truly spoilt for choice.

People at The Fringe Every August, audiences in their millions come to Edinburgh, not just to see the biggest names in the entertainment business perform, but also to see the next big thing. The Fringe has a reputation as the place where emerging talent is discovered. It was the Fringe that helped give stars like Stephen Fry, Mike Myers, Emma Thomson and Sarah Millican their respective big breaks.

Virgin Money will be supporting this summer’s street events and this year’s festival season will also see Virgin Money’s spectacular fireworks concert finale – a feast of patriotism and pageantry with breathtaking pyrotechnics and the magnificent historical backdrop of Edinburgh Castle.

Virgin Money’s CEO Jayne-Anne Gadhia spoke of her pride at being part of such an eclectic festival: “The atmosphere in the city is like nothing else. And we particularly love the open-access ethos of the street events, where undiscovered talent, residents and visitors all have the chance to get involved in the action.”

Spoilt for choice

The Fringe is open to everyone, whatever the budget, partly thanks to the Virgin Money Half Price Hut, where tickets are 50 per cent of their normal price. Why not take a risk on a show you might not have previously considered? And if half price is too much, last year’s Fringe saw around 607 free shows. This year sees even more with over 800.

With venues including grand old theatres, huge conferencing centres, pub function rooms, toilet cubicles and even unused anatomy labs, the Fringe is like nothing else you’ll ever experience. Whether you go for a day, a week or for the whole event, it is an event like no other. And the Virgin Money sponsored High Street spills over with street performers, stalls and actors.

Chief Executive of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Kath Mainland believes it’s impossible not to enjoy the Fringe. She said: “I defy you not to have a fantastic time. If you’re coming for the first time or if you’re already a convert, the Edinburgh Fringe will have something for you. You are in for a treat.”
