Edinburgh’s 101 Objects is a new experience that will bring the city’s past to life through some of its most treasured objects and curiosities. Each item has been carefully chosen for both their personal intrigue and wider role in the compelling story of Edinburgh. With items spread out across the city in over 40 locations, it definitely has something for everyone within its seven themes: Building a City, Faith & Nation, Arts & Performance, City of Innovation, On the Dark Side and Books, Words and Ideas.
The campaign will centre on their new website – www.edinburgh.org/101 – which is the only place where all objects will be viewed and curated together. You can sift through the items and stories behind them, then get out and visit them at locations across the city.
Buried amongst the curiosities are several mementoes of the anniversaries that Edinburgh is celebrating this year: it is 70 years since the city exploded with arts festivals and 250 years since Edinburgh decided to expand with a plan for a New Town.
Andrew Nicholson, Brand Director at Virgin Money said:
Virgin Money has deep roots in Edinburgh and it is a place that consistently surprises and inspires us. What city other than Edinburgh could associate a Bay City Rollers poster and a signed Trainspotting script, alongside Sir Patrick Geddes and the Scott Monument?
You may note that there are only 100 Objects on the list, this is because they have left the 101st place open as the peoples choice. We would like to suggest the Edinburgh Virgin Money Lounge, what would you choose?
