Making £5 Grow in Alnwick Gardens

This month Amberley Primary, NCEA Josephine Butler Primary and St Aloysius Primary Federation set up their Make £5 Grow stalls in the beautiful surroundings of Alnwick Gardens.

Divided into 13 teams the schools sold hand drawn pictures of Alnwick Castle (which sold out), bird feeders, dog treats, bug houses, plants (which were grown in school), doughnuts, dream-catchers and hand decorated plant pots making a combined profit of £707.67.

One of the teachers from Year Six said:

The project has been fantastic for building team work skills and helping the children learn about the value of money. They have learnt a lot about choosing the correct product for the place of sale, appropriate pricing and promotion

Alongside the Make £5 Grow Programme, Alnwick Gardens ran a competition to find the Best Dressed Stall, Best Salesmanship, Most Innovative Idea and Most Profit Made. The winners were:

  • Best dressed stall – Gardening Gang from Josephine Butler
  • Best Salesmanship – Aloysius Entrepreneurs from St Aloysius
  • Most Innovative Idea – Dazzling Dreamcatchers from Amberley Primary
  • Most Profit –  Dipp ‘n’ Donuts from Amberley Primary…a whopping 406% profit
