Here at Virgin Money, we encourage our colleagues to help local communities and charities through volunteering and fundraising activities. It’s all part of our core ambition to make everyone better off.
Continuing our support of this years charity of the year, Dementia Revolution, our colleagues have been taking on personal challenges to help raise awareness and funds. Earlier in the year we shared an article about our colleague David Hall who took part in the Liverpool Nightrider Challenge. Now we are taking a look at some of the other great fundraising that has happened across the business.
If you are inspired by any of our stories you can help support via our Virgin Money Giving Fundraising page.
Coast to Coast Cycling Challenge
A team of colleagues took on a coast to coast challenge. Over two days, the group – known as the ‘Bankers on their Bikes’ – cycled 130 miles and climbed 10,000ft on their journey from Whitehaven on the west coast to Tynemouth on the east coast. The team raised over £1000.
The Mighty Hike
A team of 10 colleagues from our Reward, Payroll and Pensions Team set themselves the challenge of raising a day’s pay for each of the colleagues talking part in this 26 mile walk from Warkworth Castle to Bamburgh Castle back in July. To assist with their fundraising they have held a donut sale, raffle, tombola and foreign currency collection.
Taken for a spin
The gym team at our Gosforth office put together a huge spinning challenge to cycle 700 miles in a day. They had colleagues from across the whole business each doing a stint on the spinning bikes to make sure they made the 700 miles. They were a little short so to make sure they didn’t fail a couple of colleagues continued with some solo miles in the gym later that day, that’s dedication.
A revolution is growing – on the streets and in the laboratories. Scientists are gaining on dementia, pioneering breakthroughs and transforming lives. With the funds our colleagues raise and the generosity of their supporters we will support the Dementia Revolution and the great work it is doing across the country.
Having offices, stores and Lounges across the UK means we can reach far and wide, so if you are a community group or charity that could benefit from our volunteering programme please get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org
