People can now sign up to take part in groundbreaking dementia research across our Virgin Money Lounges. Lounges across the country are now home to Join Dementia Research kiosks, where people can register their interest to take part in research studies close to them.
‘Join Dementia Research’ works like a matchmaking service, giving members of the public a chance to register their interest in getting involved in research with some information about themselves, and then be contacted when suitable studies open in their local area. If matched, volunteers can decide whether or not they want to take part in a study, choosing on a case-by-case basis.
There are lots of different types of research. Studies can include anything from latest drug trials to surveys trying to understand how to improve quality of life for people with dementia and their loved ones.
Our Virgin Money Lounges are supporting the Dementia Revolution, a one-year campaign that has seen Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK join forces to become the Charity of the Year for Virgin Money as well as the official charity of the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon. The campaign is aiming to raise £3.5m to help fund the most ambitious dementia research endeavour the UK has ever seen, the UK Dementia Research Institute.
Former Apprentice winner, Mark Wright, who is a supporter of the Dementia Revolution, said:
There are currently so few treatments available for people who are living with dementia and we must do everything we can to change that. This is a cause very close to my heart and that’s why I’m calling on people to visit their local Virgin Money Lounge to sign up to Join Dementia Research. We need more people with and without dementia to get involved in research, so we can unlock new understanding about the condition and find those desperately-needed treatments.
